A few brave pierced souls have answered my piercing questions. Here is one such soul, and his name is Deadpan Rookie.
A. Why would anyone want to pierce their tongue?
You get laid more often. Lots of girls look at a guy with a
tongue-ring and think "i wonder what that feels like". plus it pretty
much guarantees that you go down, which i love and want people
everywhere to know! also, i've always wanted something pierced but i was afraid it would get ripped out, by accident or in a fight or getting it caught on something. so the safest place is in yer tongue. it won't get caught on anything, and your tongue is so strong that it would take a LOT of force to rip it straight thru.
B. How do you eat once your tongue is pierced?
It took me like a week before I was comfortable with eating. For the
first week i ate soup, bread and mashed potatoes. breakfast of
tongue-pierced champions!
C. Does it hurt if it touches your fillings?
No, but I have chipped a piece of my back tooth by biting my barbell
really hard by mistake. i'm an idiot.
D. What do you do when you need to take it out?
There's usually two balls on either end of the barbell. one ball just twists off by hand.
E. Do you set off airport metal detectors?
I don't know about this, but that would be fucking hilarious! i wanna go now just to set it off!
F. Does piercing your tongue hurt more than piercing your genitalia?
Well I've never had my dick pierced or anything else for that matter,
but the tongue didn't hurt much at all. my friends have said the ears
hurt more and i've heard the navel is the worst when it comes to pain.
G. Are tongue pierces supposed to click against your teeth?
No I don't think so, mine doesn't unless I click it on purpose. Hers
might have been too far up. She should take it out, the big dork.
And what he said to me, I saith to you: Well talk to ya later in tha muthafuckin hood. Bye!
And then there's FaeDeLaLune, who has multiple piercings and wants more:
A. Why would anyone want to pierce their tongue?
there are as many answers to this as there are people with piercings. i can't say that there was any one particular reason that i had my tongue pierced, but i can say that it had nothing to do with looking a certian way or to make any sort of social statement. i have had a fascination with tongue rings for a long time and it was something that i just felt was right for me.
B. How do you eat once your tongue is pierced?
eating was only a problem for a few days after the piercing, and then it wasn't because it was painful but because i had to get used to having the barbell in my mouth. the first few days after the piercing i just ate slowly and stuck with soft things until i got the hang of manipulating the barbell.
C. Does it hurt if it touches your fillings?
it doesn't hurt at all. right after i had the piercing done the bottom ball of the barbell would get stuck on my bottom teeth when i would stick my tongue out, but even that didn't hurt it was just annoying and a little embarrassing.
D. What do you do if you need to take it out?
the barbell can be removed easily, but i have only had to take mine out to change the jewelry. if you leave it out for very long you risk not being able to put it back in.
E. Do you set off airport metal detectors?
i have 12 piercings and i have never set off a metal detector in the airport or anywhere else.
F. Does piercing your tongue hurt more than piercing your genitalia?
i don't have any genital piercings, so i don't know. there was no pain at all when i had my tongue pierced, so far it was the least painful piercing i've had, including ears.
G. Are tongue pierces supposed to click against your teeth?
that all depends on the structure of your mouth. they are not "supposed" to, but if you get a large piercing or a long barbell it happens.
H. Do you talk differently afterwards?
i did for almost 2 weeks, like when someone first gets a retainer. after i got used to the barbell my speech went back to normal.
A response from a girl named Kim: "i want to get my tongue pierced sooo bad!!!! but i can't until i am 18 my parents will not let me. sometimes it depends on what size barbell you get whether or not it will click on your teeth or not and in some cases it has chipped people's teeth just thought i would let you in on some info talk to ya later."
And one from Lucy: "no it doesn't hurt i had mine done when i was 14 and i wanted to get it done because you get a lot of attention from it ooooos and ahhhhs it is really neat i had a really small mouth and my barbell was quite big and it took me a while to get used to it my speech was slurred and it would click against my teeth because the barbell was so long it took me awhile before i could really eat pizza and stuff or even chewing gum is kind of unusual and if you are interested in getting it done i would it was not painful at all if they go through the bottom because i have read that it hurts when done through the top it is really fun to play with but sometimes you get stereotyped as a freak or just nasty but i think it is really worth all of it"
Heather says: "I have my tongue pierced. I got it done because it was something I wanted to do and I think it can be a bit erotic. I eat just like I always have, it's no big deal. It does not hurt to touch a filling with it. When I need to take it out..to change it, I just simply unscrew it and take it out. Mine does not click against my teeth, I guess it depends on where at on your tongue it is pierced and no it has not made me talk differently."
According to Aaron:
A. Why would anyone want to pierce their tongue?
Because it looks neat, and feels neat for your partner as well. For the record I have my tongue pierced twice and I haven't had any complaints about it yet.
B. How do you eat once your tongue is pierced?
How do you eat before you have it pierced? Its going to be pretty much the same. Initially it will be fairly sore and you'll probably want to eat mushy food, but after that passes, it's not really much different. You'll want to be careful though with the barbell as until it is completely healed you are going to have a larger (length wise) barbell than you need in there. Usually you'll get a 3/4 inch barbell when getting it done, but most should wear a 1/2 inch barbell so you don't bite it while eating (ouch).
C. Does it hurt if it touches your fillings?
Doesn't hurt when it touches metal, but if you bite it that is going to hurt, filling or not.
D. What do you do when you need to take it out?
Take it out? What do you mean? ;)
E. Do you set off airport metal detectors?
I've got lots of metal stuck in me, and not a single metal detector has gone off.
F. Does piercing your tongue hurt more than piercing your genitalia?
I'd have to say yes to this one. I recently got my frenum pierced and that is healing faster and with less pain than my tongue. Of course the most painful piercing for me was probably my nipples.
G. Are tongue pierces supposed to click against your teeth?
Not really, if it does, the barbell is too long.
H. Do you talk differently afterwards?
Not that I have noticed, but then again I've had my tongue pierced for over 7 years.
